[comp.sys.dec] ULTRIX Session Manager --> remote X-terminal ?

fredrp@tdw206.ed.ray.com (Fred Ross-Perry) (05/22/91)

Hi,

I header a rumor that it's not possible to run the ULTRIX DECWindows
Session Manager, and have it displayed to a reomte X-terminal.
Is this true ?

Rumor is false. Unless, of course, you have a particular X terminal in
mind. Then it is possible that the Ultrix Session manager not work on
one type. But we have it running here on GraphOns, NCDs, and Tektronixs.

Absolutely false. We do it to our NCD's regularly.

What is true, however, is that you must have your xhost list setup correctly (since the session manager likes to turn on access control and 'update' the access list), and you may have to prod your X terminal vendor to 'fix' their server to understand some subtle DEC things, (say, session management extensions, for instance :-) to allow the application to work. A little work with an Ethernet listener and/or xscope can shed an amazingly bright light :-).
