[comp.sys.dec] decnet to sparc

gcs@nucleus.mi.org (Gary C. Strauss) (06/06/91)

Is it possible to connect a Sun Sparc to an existing decnet network? We
need to pass files and possibily mail between the Sparc and the other hosts
on the network. Has anyone done this? Can it be done? What are the
problems?

Thanks Gary

Sure, it is possible to add a Sun to a DECnet network. There are
several ways of doing it. One is to purchase DECnet software for
the Sun. Sun sells a product like this, and I believe it's called
Sunlink/DNI.

If you already have an ULTRIX system and DECnet/ULTRIX,
set up the DECnet/Internet Gateway portion of the DECnet/ULTRIX
software. This allows an IP-only host to use the ULTRIX machine as
a "translator" between DECnet and IP. Both telnet and ftp are supported.

Call your local sales critter --- call the Digital person first, though. :-)
