In the paper "Disk System Architectures for High Performance Computing" by Katz, Gibson, and Patterson, Proc. IEEE (77)12:1842-1858, December 1989, the authors refer to the following DEC handbook: P. Massiglia, "Digital Large System Mass Storage Handbook", Colorado Springs, Digital Equipment Corp., 1986 This handbook covers, among other things, a general discussion of MSCP and DCA. The DEC publications people are unable to find this handbook, but I know it is still in print and handed out to customers at Colorado Springs. Can anyone send me the DEC publication order number for this handbook? On the general topic of MSCP and DCA, I have read the VAXclusters article in ACM Trans. Comp. Sys. from 1986. Are there any other publications in the open literature on MSCP and/or DCA? I realize these are proprietary standards, so details will be sketchy. If someone could supply the patent numbers for the patented portions of this technology, that would be great. I am looking into this because I am on the IEEE working group which is trying to standardize storage. The architeture of MSCP is very nice in that it supports control and data along different paths, so the data can move on a channel optimized for high throughput. I am not a regular reader of this newsgroup, but I would be happy to summarize what I receive by email and post a followup article, if there is any interest. Thanks alot! -- A.
