[rec.music.makers] T-Scan

Okay, so I'm on the phone with a friend of mine and tell him I'd just
bought the Overture to "Barber of Seville" arranged for Brass Quintet
(a *great* arrangement, BTW) and he wants to know when my 5tet would
be playing it. So I say, "Well, sometime. It's not appropriate for
church or wedding preludes and those are the gigs I've got lined up."
His response is "Why don't you load it into your synthesizer to play
it for me?" and, after I <a-hem> a bit, I point out that I use it to
go the *other* way (old music > synth > Mac > Professional Composer
to publish my arrangements) and that it's a bit time-consuming. So
Ken asks, "Too bad there isn't an optical scanner you could use to
load the music right into the Mac and then down-load into your synth,"
and I say, "What an idea!"

So here's the query: Now that we have ThunderScan to load pictures
into MAcPaint format, is there anybody who's developed a way to
analyze the Picts and preload a Professional Composer file? If it
got nothing but the clefs and notes I'd be delighted - I'll load in
the words, endings, instruments, dynamics, and so on. I can see it
now: Gee, I think I'll arrange this Motet for brass quartet; Scan it,
convert it, edit it, and publish my arrangement! For original works,
work up a very clean pencil score and do the same.
