I am about to design a PA loudspeaker stack built up as a 3-way active system with the subbas,bas-midrange and tweeters in separate cabinets. I have two questions: 1) what type of cabinet design (eg closed box, basreflex, exp-horn, frontloadedhorn etc) is the best choise for each speaker? If there is a different choise depending on the size of the room where to use the system, please tell me what to use in each case. 2) Has anyone of You got the mathematic formulas for designing: - Basreflex cabinet ? - Exponential horn cabinet ? - Frontloaded linear/exponential horn cabinet ? What parameters of the speakerelements involved do I need? The system will be used in rooms taking from 200 - 1500 people and my idea was to drive the system with about 2x500W in the subbass, 2x300W in the bas-midrange and about 2x200W to the tweeters using a 3-way phase linear electronic crossover. BTW: will it be sufficient with 1 18" subw. 1 12" bas-midr. in each channel? Please email me directly. If You want to, I'll put the information together in a kompendium and post it on the net. The guys across the street - make that strait - at Akustisk Laboratorium,
DTH, Lundtofte, have all you need, and then some.
If you call them, say hello from me (Thorkil Hammer, cand polyt '79).
A little further downstream is Fysisk Laboratorium,
H. C. Orsted Instituttet, Universitetsparken 5, Kobenhavn N.,
and they, too, might know more than you want to know.
If you call them, say hello from me (cand scient '71).
Nostalgia, nostalgia. Det er hunde koldt i Danmark.
It is also cold in California, but, like, not the same kind of cold.
