I recently posted a request to rec.music.makers for information (features & price) on multitrack (4 or more tracks) recorders for under $1,000. I only got a couple of responses, so I'd appreciate any more inputs that some of you might have. Also, one of the responses mentioned that there is some sort of problem with the Yamaha MT100 having to do with "feedback during mixdown". Can anyone fill me in on the details of this (exactly what is the problem, how serious it is, and is there anyway to avoid it e.g. via appropriate setting of levels, or something). Lastly, I obtained an advertising data sheet on the Tascam Porta Studio I and II. It says that the Porta II only operates at 1 7/8 ips (tape speed). One of the responses to my posting said, however, that it offers two speeds (presumably 3 3/4 ips as well). Who is right (or did the unit originally offer only 1 7/8 and later get upgraded to have both speeds)?
