Greetings:: This note is probably going to be rather long, so if you're in a hurry, you might want to hit 'n' now. I would like to put together a system for a one man show at the local small auditoriums, weddings, piano bars, etc. I need advice on equipment. First the sound system: Since I'm shooting in the dark on some of this, please bear with some of my explanations. I would like a rack mounted amp, but it doesn't have to be super powerful. I have seen people using, what looks like, a home system amp, with some Peavy SP1 speakers. Will that type of setup hold up to the stress of playing for 3 or 4 hours straight? What about mixer boards? I can't imagine that I would need more that 6 or so channels, but that may be underestimating if I use a sequencer to add more than two instruments to the sound. Do they make a powered mixer board? That would seem to ideal in a small set-up as I'm describing. I would like to mount the speakers on stands, so it would seem that they would have to be light-weight, but have a full sound. I saw a set of kilsp speakers yesterday in Music Alley, but at $600 a piece they seemed a little pricey. Sequencers/drum machines/ computers, oh God, what a wide selection. I would like to do more than just simple, bass in the left hand, organ in the right type of music. I see a dedicated sequencers as being what I need, but the prices on these is way beyond what I could see as justifying there use. If I went with just a drum machine, how do I ever sync the beat to the music I'm playing. If I do use a drum machine, it seems like I'm still limited to the left hand bass, right hand organ routine. Suppose I do get a sequencer. It I use the drum channel of say my SY22, does that limit the number of notes I can use for the rest of the accompliment (I'm sure it does). In that case, I can see having both pieces of equipment around. Okay, how about cost of all the above. Does anyone have a similar setup, and would mind giving specifics on cost/type of equipment/ use? Well, I've rambled on enough. If there is enough interest, and I get enough response, I'd be glad to summerize for the net! Thanks Eddie Mikell ehm1@ra.msstate.edu
