Hello, I have recently purchased a MIDI keyboard, Yamaha PSR-47 (which I think is more than adequate for a beginner like myself). I also have a IBM PC/XT type machine (which I hope to upgrade to a 80386 type sometime). Logically, I'm now looking for a MIDI expansion board that fits in my PC, but I don't know where to begin. I have looked into various computer and electronic muzak rags, and found out the following: (1) No computer ad seems to have a MIDI board listed. (2) No electronic music magazines seems to have any mail order ad. I'd like to know what people think is the best/worst choice. Am I correct to say that Roland MIDI boards are "de facto standards"; any MIDI program is pretty much guaranteed to run properly on a Roland board? I would appreciate any comments from anyone. I *DO* regularly read this newsgroup, so replies via e-mail or posting are welcome. I hope to get this board very soon as I'm anxious to make my computer do some neato tricks. I also plan to program the board, so any technical info/tips are welcome. Thank you. /Taka Sajima sajima@watsun.cc.columbia.edu sajima@CUNIXC.BITNET
