Does anyone know of any 6-track cassette recorders other the Vestax MR66 and the Sansui WS-X1? Does anyone have info on the Sansui WS-X1, such as: - key features (e.g. # mixer channels, speed, SNR, defeatable NR on track 6?) - going price - reliability, problems, etc (e.g. how trouble-free is its Dolby C given its 6 [narrow] tracks)? I can't say I've had any experience with six-track machines, but I did
work with a Tascam 238 (8 tracks) for awhhile and found myself having
to realign the beast once every week and a half of moderate to heavy
use. You have to be careful when aligning machines with high-density
offset heads (like the 238) because selecting the wrong two tracks to
use during alignment can cause problems.
As for your Dolby C question, I don't think it'll be too much of a
problem... The compression will probably be a boon to your tapes
since the headroom drops drastically beyond four tracks.
