I have just gotten access (indefinite loan) to an Atari MEGA ST 4. Here is a summary of EVERYTHING that I know about this machine (I have never used any Atari machines except the video games): 1) It has a 680x0 in it. 2) It has built-in MIDI ports (in/out). 3) There is supposed to be some pretty good music software for it. I have not powered it up yet, so I don't know ANYTHING else. I don't even know exactly what hardware I have (I don't have it all yet). Can anyone mail me any info about this machine (specs, etc)? Do I need a disk- based OS, or is it in ROM? How are graphics? Is it correct that some software will not run with a color monitor? Is that a SCSI port I see on the back? Can people recommend good music software? I have Dr. T's KCS Level II v3.0 for Amiga, but haven't used it (and having bought it once, am not interested in buying it again -- unless somebody wants to trade me the ST version for my Amiga version). From my point of view, KCS along with Copyist looks like THE combination (if it's the same on ST as on Amiga) -- if the ST were *really* mine I'd probably buy it again unless somebody told me they liked something else better. I would like to use it to sequence my keyboards (EPS, DW8000, TX81Z) and do some serious composition. -- Ben Cox cox@cmp-rt.music.uiuc.edu
