I apologize for a rather simplistic question but.... I am a part time musician and full time software laborer taking my first baby steps in computer music. I am looking for a midi interface board and sequencing software for my Zenith PC XT clone. I was all set to buy Cakewalk and a Roland midi board (MPU-401) but at the last minute, someone is suggesting the Sound Blaster board and a sequencer called Prism. The price for these is significantly less than the Cakewalk/Roland package but as they are unknowns to me, I thought I might call on the wisdom of the net. Its clear that the Sound Blaster has a lot of neat features - but how does it fare as a standard midi interface board? Are the extra features (built-in power amp, voice sampling, etc.) really useful? Anyone have experience with its reliability vs. MPU-401? Please reply by E-mail if you can help me out. I'll summarize to the net if there is interest. Thanks in advance.
