From: Bill Oliver <oliver@cs.unc.edu> [mod.note: Crossposted between sci.military and rec.arts.books. Followups via email to the author, please, or to r.a.b. - Bill ] My father was an infantryman involved in the landing at Buna beach (sp?) in New Guinea in WWII. In one of those battles he suffered severe wounds, including a machine gun round to the forehead, which have had a great effect on his life afterwards. As you might expect, he has maintained an interest in the history of that period and of that arena. While certainly a turning point in my father's life, Buna seems to be treated primarily as a side note in most histories of WWII that he or I have run across. My father has, however, repeatedly come upon references to a book called "Bloody Buna," which is apparently devoted to this campaign. My father lives in a very rural area, and frankly can't get out too much -- his wounds affected his sight, hearing, and his senses of body position and balance. He thus has had difficulty getting hold of that book. My father's birthday is coming up in the not-too-distant future, and I would like to get this book for him. I looked around, but have been told that it is out of print. Does anyone out there know of this book, know where I might find a copy, or have a copy they would be willing to sell? Thanks, Bill Oliver
