[rec.arts.sf-lovers] Timothy Leary, Neuromancer, and all sorts of silliness

COK@PSUVMA.BITNET (R. W. Clark, K. S. C.) (10/27/87)

Some neat little rumors I think other alt.cyberpunks might be interested in,
or already know. I'm crossposting this to rec.arts.sf-lovers because I find
it rather odd that cyberpunk is ghettoized in alt.cyberpunk. It really seems
that alt.cyberpunk should just merge with rec.arts.sf-lovers. It would make
more sense that way.

Anyway, the rumors/gibberish/baldfaced lies:

Apparently, Timothy Leary (60's drug advocate, current president of Futique
Software, and recent author of a Rolling Stone article on cyberpunk) currently
has something to do with a project to make a video game out of Neuromancer.
Anyone know more about this oddness?

More Neuromancer oddness:

I've heard that some company or other has purchased the rights to Neuromancer
and has already begun building sets and such.
Anyone have information on this?

[A possible apology: If any of this stuff has appeared before, I apologize for
wasting time with it; just recently, alt.cyberpunk became a valid newsgroup in
PSUVMA, so I may have missed discussion of this. If not, I suppose I can take
a bow for bringing new information onto the newsgroup.]

Folks who think the cyberpunk brand of interfacing is far fetched are
cordially invited to consult Jim Foley's article in the October 1987
issue of Scientific American. The details may differ a bit, but we're
close, very close. ;-)

Kent, the (totally weird) man from xanth.

Running for president on a pound of caffeine, an ounce of sense, and a
program of increased exploration and exploitation of space. Support
your (probably non-existent - get busy!) local branch of the Birthright
Party: "The birthright of mankind is the stars!"

Hey, it's better than dwelling on your stock portfolio; at least here
you've got a chance for a laugh or two. ;-) Yum! Eat them plastic
chickens, brethren! Call me when I'm elected; 'til then, I'm going to
take a nap.
