[comp.sources.bugs] Making the NetHack Patch Kit work...

mike@genat.UUCP (Mike Stephenson) (08/16/87)

I have been notified of a few problems in the 1.4 patch kit I had Bill Randle
release on Friday. Bill and I are both in the position of having impending
travel deadlines so the whole thing was rushed.

Guy Harris has informed me that the copy of invent.c that I patched was not
the original. Therefore, I am including the complete copy of invent.c fol-
lowing this article.

Another bug he reported involved the method I used writing the ed script. All
of the ocurrences of ED_EOF in the script should be quoted with single quotes:

	ed file.c <<ED_EOF should be:	ed file.c <<'ED_EOF'

This is to prevent the shell from trying to expand all of the patch text.

A third bug which I discovered after I had sent Bill the patch kit can be
fixed as follows:

In engrave.c, in the routine read_engr_at() at the bottom of the switch
there is an if statement of the form:

	    if (canfeel)

replace it with the statement:

	    if (canfeel || !Blind)

Here is invent.c:
