[comp.sources.bugs] yet another nethack bug....

ghoti@killer.UUCP (09/07/87)

Hi,

I had an interesting problem crop up in NetHack 1.4f. Scenario:

I had eaten a dead leprechaun, and was teleporting around.
Lo and behold, I came upon this ring.
I put it on and the next time I teleported, the game asked me to tell it where
to teleport me.
I chose a location (right on a door) and typed a '.' and *poof!*, I got a
message back "EMT trap - core dumped".

Any ideas? Since I am not a Unix wiz, thought someone out there in netland
might be able to help.

Thanks, in advance,

No one seems to have mentioned this bug yet so.....

Under hack 1.0.2, when someone sends you mail why you are hack'ing,
a mail man approaches you and gives you a 'scroll of mail'. When you
read the scroll you see the message they sent and are propmted to hit
any key to continue.

I have brought up nethack2.2 on a VAX8600 running Ultrix 1.2 and this
feature doesn't work. You get the scroll of mail ok, but when you read
it, the screen clears, but no message is shown and you are prompted to
hit any key to continue.

Apparently this bug hasn't been noticed by anyone else yet and it's
not that major of a bug, but one that should probably be worked for the
next release.

I've got it running on a Sun 3 with their 3.2 UNIX. I did,
however, change the mail program from /bin/mail to /usr/uci/mhmail.
(I also changed the news file to be readable with msh. If anyone
wants a patch, let me know.) I was having lots of trouble with
/bin/mail and /usr/ucb/mail.
