When starting up RN (patch level #40) on a user file system that is full, I get the usual "/user: Write error: file system full" or whatever the kernel (CCI 6/32 Sys V 3.0) says. Fine. The annoying thing is, both my .newsrc and .oldnewsrc got linked together (!!!), and truncated (!!!). This is reasonably repeatable. Known bug, Larry? Known fix, anyone? -- Dave Horsfall (VK2KFU), Alcatel-STC Australia, dave@stcns3.stc.oz dave%stcns3.stc.OZ.AU@uunet.UU.NET, ...munnari!stcns3.stc.OZ.AU!dave MIPS is a four-letter word

Yeah, known bug. One of these years I might get bit hard enough by it to
fix it, but I haven't yet. If anyone has a patch for it, feel free to
post it. My next "patch" to rn will be a new version.

Many of our users are given "little" accounts (lower priority, restricted access, and, low QUOTAS). They like to use these accounts for reading news, they all use rn, and (as I now know) when their quotas run out, their .newsrc and .oldnewsrc go away. They get mad and yell at me. Anyone got a patch that'll make them stop? Please? -- djn djn@nmt.edu ...!unmvax!nmtsun!djn --- Message Ends ---

How about the one when running rn and expire runs? Similar garbage.... Fortunately, you can shell out and cp the .oldnewsrc out. Saves some headaches as the .newsrc has unsubscribed all newsgroups as bogus.... Sigh. I run expire at 6:00PM to prevent interference with receiving my nightly news. -tank- -- #include <disclaimer.h> /* nobody knows the trouble I .... */
