[comp.sources.bugs] Screen 2.0a, ANSI 2.0a Difficulties

tgoodman@bbn.com (Todd Goodman) (02/28/89)

Hi all,

I've been using version 2.0a of screen for a while now and I've been
having a problem and would like to know if anyone else has encountered this.
The problem occurs when I try to run screen with a TERM set to anything but
vt220 (actually I've only tried it with TERM set to vt100 and twist). The
problem is that screen is VERY slow when redrawing the screen (with TERM set
to vt100) and is slow redrawing the screen in vi (with TERM set to either
vt100 or twist). I thought that the problems may have been caused by the
lack of delete line, insert line, or cursor motion capabilities on the part
of the terminal, but the twist supports all of the vt220 functions. It seems
to be especially prevalent when displaying the '~'s in vi or when opening lines
above existing text in vi.

I'm running now in 24-line mode on a twist with TERM set to vt220
and it seems fine, but I'd like to use the 72 line mode. I'm gonna look
into it closer, but I was wondering if anyone has seen anything similar
and had suggestions. This probably really isn't a bug, but I'd appreciate
any input anyone has in any case.

				Thanks in advance,

P.S. - I'm running screen on an Ultrix V2.0-1. The twist is a VDT manufactured
by the Facit Corp. which supports, among other things, a 72-line mode
	enabled by 'twist'ing the display.
