I have been running Calentool V2.1p6 on a Sun 3/60 running SunOS 4.0.3 for some time. Lately I notice that certain appointments do not show up on the daily view. However, if the pointer is moved to the slot which should have the reminder, the triangular cursor appears at the end of the text and not in col 1. In order to view the entry, I have to make two dummy entries and then click on the <MORE> button twice for the display to cycle. I looked at the .appointments file and did not find anything unusual. This also fits in with the instance when the console has a long string of garbage instead of the text of the reminder. I did not see these with previous patch levels. Anyone seen these problems before? iNDRA | indra@amdcad.AMD.COM (Indra Singhal) (408) 749-5445 | {ames decwrl apple pyramid sun uunet}!amdcad!indra | MS 167; Box 3453; Sunnyvale, CA 94088

Yes -- at least in the notes section. It seems to happen when you delete (for the day) one of your other notes. Calentool gets confused somehow. I have avoided the problem by simply not using delete, at least for notes. -- - Liz Allen-Mitchell liz@grian.cps.altadena.ca.us ames!elroy!grian!liz "God is light; in him there is no darkness at all." -- 1 John 1:5b

I am in a situation where I depend on calentool and am going nuts trying to fix this problem. How do I back track and fix the problem? I swear, I will never use delete on a note again :-) Help. > - Liz Allen-Mitchell liz@grian.cps.altadena.ca.us > ames!elroy!grian!liz iNDRA | indra@amdcad.AMD.COM (Indra Singhal) (408) 749-5445 | {ames decwrl apple pyramid sun uunet}!amdcad!indra | MS 167; Box 3453; Sunnyvale, CA 94088

Sorry, I got things a little mixed up... When you delete a recurring appointment (by selecting "delete" or "cut" on the right button menu), a menu pops up which asks you if you want to remove the appointment for just this occurrence or for all occurrences. If you select all occurrences, everything works fine. But, if you select just this occurrence, you can get the symptoms you described: a triangle in the middle of a blank entry like the one that appears at the end of an entry. My "solution" is really a work around. I never delete just one occurrence in a note because things get really confused. For the lines with times, I just ignore the random little triangles. By the way, if you want to see such an entry, choosing "undelete" from the menu ought to do it. -- - Liz Allen-Mitchell liz@grian.cps.altadena.ca.us ames!elroy!grian!liz "God is light; in him there is no darkness at all." -- 1 John 1:5b

Most strange my version of Calentool V2.1p6 doesn't ever display any funny triangles anywhere. Oh well. I have another problem with Calentool. On my sun running 4.0.3 and monochrome monitor (if it matters) when I do a week at a glance view the shortened entries are ended with a `A' written over the vertical bar to the right of the entry... like Staff meetinA. I believe that I've put in all the patches. [I mailed this to Bill as well, but maybe someone else has fixed this ...] My .profile had "calentool -Pd" to display my daily appointments. I decided to add the "-o" option so at year's end it would save off all appointments to a new file. Well, I lost all appointments for this year. Except for the "#include" lines. As near as I can tell, the "-o" option is the culprit. (And I didn't have a backup. Grrrrr) -- David St. Pierre 415/823-6800 {att, bellcore, sun, ames, decwrl}!pacbell!david
