[comp.sources.bugs] rn patch 45 available soon

rrn@lib.tmc.edu (Stan Barber) (03/18/90)

Patch 45 for rn will be available in the next four weeks. It is mostly bug
fixes. They are listed below. You will be able to pick up the patch from
USENET's comp.sources.bugs and news.software.b groups. It will be available
from the archive-server@bcm.tmc.edu and via anonymous ftp from bcm.tmc.edu.

Additionally, the complete rn kit fully patched is also available from
lib.tmc.edu.

This kit will not address some System V issues and some suggested enhancements.
I have these in the queue as well, but they will be released (if possible) in
a furture patch. The System V issues will be in the next patch kit.

Here are the bugs/problems addressed in patch 45.

The size of ACT_POS has been changed from short to long to cope with the ever
increasing size of the active file.

    <alo@kampi.hut.fi>, and eps@cs.SFSU.EDU.

was never being determined correctly.
    Reported by Chip Rosenthal <chip@chinacat.lonestar.org>

Added support for the active file flags in CNEWS. Some might consider this an
enhancement, others a bug....I don't intend to argue.
Reported by tale@turing.cs.rpi.edu (David C Lawrence)

Sed on some systems takes only 9 wfiles. System V sed and BSD sed don't
support the exact same syntax. newsetup and newsgroups have been changed to
accomodate these problems.
Reported by evanh@sco.com (Evan A.C. Hunt), and eggert@twinsun.com.

Configure would not work right under System V in determining if termio
is supposed to be used or not.
    Reported by many many people.

If a LIST command fails because of a bad network connection, rn would sometimes
continue to operate with the truncated active file and declare groups invalid.
This is now fixed.
    Reported by stewart@netxcom.iad-nxe.global-mis.dhl.com (John Stewart)

Reworked signal handling code to better handle signals (I hope!).
