This is a letter I recieved from Carol Kroll. She wanted me to
send it back to her so she could post it, but due to problems with
the path to her, I decided to just post it for her. If anyone has any
questions about it, just send mail to her. Included at the end is her
signature.

Thanks Carol for the message, sorry about not being able to send it
back to you.

NETNORTH is the Canadian part of BITNET. The Technical University of
Nova Scotia does have a node called TUNS on NETNORTH. It is a cyber system,
not the vax you were looking for, but you might make inquiry there.

Since I hadn't announced it in this newsgroup I will mention that I completed
a directory of hosts this summer which is available online or in paper form,
and it may be helpful for finding these things. For those who are
interested the announcement follows.

****************************************************************************
USERS' DIRECTORY OF COMPUTER NETWORKS

A directory of hosts on the ARPANET, MILNET, BITNET, CSNET, SPAN and TEXNET
has been prepared at the University of Texas at Austin, and is now available:

 1. by anonymous ftp (login anonymous, password guest) from
emx.cc.utexas.edu (128.83.1.33), at the UT Austin Computation Center,
     in /usr/pub/ftp/net.directory, compressed or uncompressed

 2. by anonymous ftp from garp.mit.edu (18.72.0.205) at MIT, courtesy
of Henry Mensch, in pub/net.directory, compressed or uncompressed

 3. via uucp from uunet.uu.net for uunet subscribers, courtesy of Rick Adams,
in ~uucp/netdir/netdir.part1.Z through netdir.part4.Z, compressed only

 4. to JNET EARN nodes only, in VMSDUMP format, courtesy of Matts Kallioniemi,
KOMunity Software AB, Stockholm, Sweden, send mail to matts@seqz51.bitnet

 5. online versions for other non-ftp BITNET nodes and for decnet nodes on
SPAN and TEXNET is being arranged and will soon be announced

The paper version of the directory is available for $10 (to cover
production costs) from: Network Directory, Computation Center, University
of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX 78712. The printed version differs from
the online version primarily in the inclusion of 14 network maps, and SIZE
(135 sheets instead of the 560 sheets when the ftp version is printed out).

For each host, the Users' Directory of Computer Networks includes (where
available):
   hostname; IP addresses or node numbers; OS type; machine type;
   sys admin or contact name, email address and phone number;
organization or institution name and address; network software and
   machine aliases.

Each network section is preceded by a brief overview of the network's
history, purpose, protocols, topology, and available support services.
An attempt is made to suggest address syntax for mailing from each network
to the other networks listed in the directory.

Two indices are included, one by host name, one by the name of the organization
or institution that runs the host.

Size and content of the online files available for ftp from emx or garp
are as follows:

net.directory.part1 Cover, Titlepage, Contents, 304 kb
                        Introduction, ARPANET & MILNET
   (netdir.part1.Z compressed version 109 kb)

net.directory.part2 BITNET 466 kb
   (netdir.part2.Z compressed version 165 kb)

net.directory.part3 CSNET, GTE Telenet, NSFNET, 244 kb
                        SPAN, TEXNET
   (netdir.part3.Z compressed version 60 kb)

net.directory.part4 Index by organization name, 426 kb
                        Index by host name,
                        Bibliography, On-line bibliography
   (netdir.part4.Z compressed version 121 kb)

Please note that suggestions on how to improve the contents of the directory,
or its availability, are welcome.
