[comp.mail.misc] Path to Montreal

wlui@batcomputer.UUCP (10/31/87)

I need to contact a colleague of mine, who is studying at the Concordia
University in Montreal, Canada. The e-mail address he gave me is:

		ken-nec@deervax.concordia.cdn

and he told me that it is gatewayed through UBC (U. of British Columbia)
in Vancouver. I tried this address but I was kept telling that such host
is unknown. I wonder if the gurus in the netland can shed some light on
this problem of mine. Thanks in advance.

The .cdn network (a collection of Canadian sites running UBC's EAN X.400
mail system) is gatewayed to the Internet via UBC's CSnet connection.
CSNet relay knows about .cdn, however, and your best bet is

   ken-nec%deervax.concordia.cdn@relay.cs.net

Be aware that within the next year (months, optimists would say) many canadian
sites, regardless of network affiliation, may start sporting names ending
with .ca. There is already one such site (mcgill.ca) officially on the
internet. If you have to communicate with canadian sites, be on the look-out
for messages announcing the change.
