I have an associate located in Scotland that I would like to be able to send/ receive EMail to/from. Could anybody tell me how he would go about gaining access through the public phone system in Scotland to USENET? Thanks in advance, Don Phillips

I don't know the details, although Telenet's customer service should be able to. From Scotland, he should be able to connect to a public data network, and connect to Telenet in the US. He could then get a portal account (like the poster has), or use PC Pursuit to dial any of the other various public access systems (see the "picnix" postings). -- John Owens SMART HOUSE Development Venture john@jetson.UUCP (old uucp) uunet!jetson!john +1 301 249 6000 (internet) john%jetson.uucp@uunet.uu.net

When I last checked with TELENET, PC-PURSUIT access was only available from US dialins. This was as of nine months ago. Thanks for the thought, though. Don Phillips

He could then get a portal This is likely to incurr extremely high connect charges, as well as being subject to the painful problems of communicating via X.25 over satellite. A cheaper alternative would be to use a service called 'GreenNet'. Although London based, GreenNet can be reached by a local dialed call to British Telecom PSS service from most of the UK. For further information call +44 1 490 1510 or send mail to mitra@cdp.UUCP <mitra%cdp.uucp@parcvax.xerox.com, {labrea, hplabs, parcvax}!cdp!mitra> GreenNet specialises in providing mail and conferencing facilities for environmental groups, however, they're certainly worth a try if you need to send UUCP mail from the UK.
