[comp.mail.misc] trying to create internet return address

dg@lakart.UUCP (David Goodenough) (06/07/88)

What I am looking for is the how-to's of creating an "internet return address"
for lakart.UUCP. In particular one of our neighbours is on internet, and
so by sending to something like:

lakart!dg@mirror.tmc.com, or
lakart%dg@mirror.tmc.com, or
dg%lakart@mirror.tmc.com

an internet person should be able to get through to me. The question I have
is this: is there a "correct" format for doing this - I gather the '%'
format is used but ....., and our uucp mailer would do odd things with the
first (it would parse out the '!' first - send to lakart (i.e. here) and then
try to forward to dg@mirror.tmc.com). I gather that I am stirring up an
old hornets nest by asking this, as there has been much discussion on the
net of different mail path formats, so I ask for responses by e-mail (I've
also munged the followup line :-) :-), in addition I don't usually read here
so you'll HAVE to E-mail to get to me anyway.

Thanks to all who replied, as Rich $alz mentioned mirror is not on the
internet, but cca.cca.com are, so that works. It seems that the undocumented
but very widespread '%' hack is the way to go: i.e. dg%lakart@cca.cca.com
is what I should use. This prevents the ambiguity of the lakart!dg@cca.cca.com
form from being a problem.
