We all know AT&T is out of the third party e-mail game, we've known it was coming for some time, I thought my paths file knew all about it. I was wrong. The other day I got some bounced mail from AT&T with a polite note telling me what I already knew about att and third party mail. So I says to myself, self, what gives? The bounced mail was on its way to ddsw1 so I do this: uuhosts ddsw1 UUCP mail path from ontenv to ddsw1: ddsw1 ontmoh!utgpu!att!ddsw1!%s 200 UUCP mail information for host ddsw1 (#USENET lines show USENET news links): Yup, there it is a path through att, but no map entry Hmm... Yet see what this yields: uuhosts att UUCP mail path from ontenv to att: att ontmoh!utgpu!att!%s 200 att.att.com ontmoh!utgpu!att!%s 200 UUCP mail information for host att (#USENET lines show USENET news links): #Name .att.com, att #F arpa.att.com #Organization AT&T #Contact Mark Horton, Tim Thompson, Doug Price, Jonathan Clark #Electronic-Address mark@att.att.com, tgt@att.att.com, dhp@att.att.com, jhc@att.att.com #Telephone 614-860-4276, 614-860-7026, 312-979-3664, 201-957-2586 #Postal-Address Rm 1D-119, 6200 E. Something is wrong here with your maps, anyway. There does indeed exist a map entry for ddsw1. But that's besides the point. >Yet see what this yields: > >uuhosts att > >[This map is more recent than the third party embargo start on Sept 1] Actually, the shut-off of third-party e-mail did not being in earnest until the 21st of September, but again, that is besides the point. ># This list of externally connected machines will be very volatile over ># the next couple of months as AT&T gets out of the 3rd-party e-mail ># business. ># ># >att <acad>(HOURLY), <acich>(HOURLY), <aecom>(HOURLY), > <agsnjt>(HOURLY), <aicchi>(HOURLY), <alberta>(HOURLY), > <amdahl>(HOURLY), <amdcad>(HOURLY), <anvil>(HOURLY), > > ...And so on... > >Her comes the kicker. I was using the "<machine>" pathalias syntax until the actual shut-off occurred. Now that it has been put into place, these entries will be removed from the map.
