Does anyone have a list of PC user mail agents using POP2/SMTP for mail transfer which are configurable to use either a ethernet card or SLIP line for data transfer. I'd really like to get my hands on some public domain version of such a program. I looked at PCNFS Lifeline mail. It appears to be a fairly good user agent, but I've had a little difficulty with it. I also looked at PCIP, but from what I've seen it doesn't support SLIP. We are looking at ways to improve our campus mail service. Currently we have users connect to a remote host from their PC then run a mail user agent on the remote system. With our expanding campus network it would be very nice to start providing a network based mail service for our PC users. Ideally I'd like to have something which will work across both our current serial connections and also the expanding network connections. Additional network services such as Telnet, FTP or NFS would be great. Is anyone in a similar situation? How do you currently support electronic mail on PCs and what are your plans for the future?
