[comp.mail.misc] 100 messages and counting!

bill@twwells.uucp (T. William Wells) (05/02/89)

I've so far received over a hundred of the following. Somebody want
to try to explain just what went wrong?

I'm trying to limit the damage by preventing the forwarding of the
mail to uflorida.

I'm not about to send any mail on this one, I might create more of the
same!

Simtel20 is a Decsystem 20 with 36 bit words. Image mode transfers thus
leave a garbage nibble in every fourth byte when received by an 8 bit byte
machine. If this sounds like what is happenning to you try

type L 8

instead of type i.

I can explain a bit about the original message from the standpoint of
this site ..

This looks a whooooole lot like a news Path: line. ESPECIALLY since
ukma and uflorida don't have a UUCP link but DO have a news link. Remember
boys and girls -- it's Evil And Rude to use the Path: line as a mail address...

When a piece of mail arrives here for uflorida it is re-routed, by only
looking at the first site mentioned Paul, as so:

	| 5 - g:david --> /mmdfstuff/locmachine/dbmedit
	dbmedit> print uflorida.uucp
	key "uflorida.uucp": table "chan-uucp": value "mailrus!uflorida!%s"
	dbmedit> print novavax.uucp
	key "novavax.uucp": table "chan-uucp": value "mailrus!uflorida!novavax!%s"

And by itself that's a Good Thing since mailrus & uflorida have a UUCP link,
or so their respective map entries say.
