[comp.mail.misc] Protocol readings?

I am looking for information concerning the building of headers for 
mail.  I am writing a mail reader/writer for the Apple II and need to
be sure I follow "all the rules!"

I'm using John Logajan's MailTruk for the Atari as an example of what to
do, however, I want to be sure my software meets all the set requirments.

Can anybody point me in the right direction for this documentation?
