We have a number of field offices that connect to us directly, and we'd like to make these subdomains of Solbourne.COM. What I have done is to modify our sendmail.cf so that mail to one of these known subdomains is sent directly to the proper site (via uucp). So, for example, mail to mikeb@westsci.solbourne.com is sent via uucp to the site that handles the 'westsci' subdomain. In addition, the subdomain sites are set up to accept this mail. Also, they are set up to use us (the main office) as their domain address relay site, and to send any *.solbourne.com domain mail not destined for their subdomain to us as well. First of all, does this sound like a reasonable method? My understanding is that we can create subdomains without having to register them. Secondly, what is the proper way to set up the UUCP maps for these sites? For example, our map entry contains the lines: stan .solbourne.com stan solbourne.com stan= stan.solbourne.com The site handling the subdomain westsci.solbourne.com is called westsci. Is it correct for the entry for westsci to contain the lines: westsci .westsci.solbourne.com westsci westsci.solbourne.com westsci= westsci.solbourne.com or will this cause undue confusion or bad mail routing? -- David Elliott dce@Solbourne.COM ...!{boulder,nbires,sun}!stan!dce
