This is the call for votes for the "sci.groupware" newsgroup. The proposal includes the creation of a followups group "sci.groupware.f". The sci.groupware newsgroup would cover all types of hardware and software for facilitating group interaction. This includes what is termed orgware. First question to the Net after creation of sci.groupware: How can the quality of messages that one sees be improved? Sci.groupware(.f) would fill the need for scientific discussion of questions that come up in comp.mail.misc and other comp.mail.* groups (and recently in news.groups). For a summary of discussion about the proposed newsgroup, see the accompanying post, "Sci.groupware discussion summary", in news.groups. I had to post this twice since postnews wouldn't let me post to 16 newsgroups at once, please reply to this only once. This call for votes and the summary will be posted bimonthly (more or less) during the voting period. Since doubt remains about the preferred name for the group, a single transferable vote procedure is being used. This means you rank each choice that you approve of, with your most preferred choice first. Choose: "s", if you approve of the group with the name "sci.groupware". "c", if you approve of the group with the name "comp.groupware". "n", if you disapprove of the group. For example, if you prefer "sci.groupware" to "comp.groupware", but want the group created in any case then your vote would be "sc". Place your choice(s) in the subject line of your email message. Replying to this article (the R command in rn) should get it the vote counters. Comments should be sent as separate messages. All unambiguous votes will be counted, even if you do not put your vote into the "Subject:" line. But please, if you can, follow the suggestion for putting the vote into the "Subject:" line. Group or posted votes (followups) will not be counted. Votes will be collected until November 30th. Votes will be acknowledged in a "group acknowledgement": each reposting of the call for votes will be accompanied by a list of names of people who voted. It will not contain any information on which way they voted. Followups to this article have been directed to news.groups. Replies have been directed to Brandon S. Allbery, David S. Stodolsky, and T. William Wells for vote processing. Thank you for your vote. This Call for Votes is in violation of the letter of the guidelines. The same effect could be achieved, however, by following the guidelines and having a separate call for each potential name. Some delay between the discussion and the call for votes has resulted due to the new procedures being used and technical difficulties. [The guidelines also do not allow for the creation of more than one newsgroup with a single vote. --moderator] ------------------------------ If all other addresses fail try one of these: @uunet.uu.net:stodol@diku.dk <....{well-connected site}!uunet!mcvax!diku!stodol> <stodol@diku.uucp> IP number (129.142.96.1) Alternative addresses for T.
