Currently at CSU, Chico, we are working on putting together a a campus-wide network and will be using SMTP as our standard mail protocol. Our network consists of an Ethernet backbone with numerous unix (and other) hosts, Mac localtalk networks bridged via Kinetics Fast Paths and PCs connected directly to the ethernet. There are several Novelle servers as well. The Macintoshes are currently using Microsoft Mail, which we are very happy with. We will soon be purchasing Cayman's Microsoft Mail to SMTP gateway. We are now in search of a mail package that runs on PCs over Ethernet. Microsoft Mail runs on PCs, but only over Appletalk. This is not acceptable. The package must have a good user interface (i.e screen-oriented) and must directly or indirectly 'speak' SMTP. We know that cc:Mail offers a gateway to SMTP but it appears to be a rather complicated scheme running in batch mode, requiring several dedicated PC's and special conversion software. Does anyone know of a solution for us, either commercial or public domain? If so, please send e-mail to robin@csuchico.edu. Please do not reply to this address, it is a guest account. Thanks.
