I have heard that it is possible to send mail to BBSs around the world if they are part of FIDOnet. I heard that it is done through some address (internet). If anyone has any idea how this is done, please send me e-mail.

Is it possible to send mail from the Internet to the OMNET? I believe that OMNET is part of the commercial service Telenet (it is a service used by scientists). Bob Cox

OK, I know to mail to somebody at a FidoNet address like 1:234/567, I would mail to somebody@f567.n234.z1.fidonet.org. But I now want to mail to somebody at "1:161/148.1". What do I do with the bloomin' ".1"? Rich McAllister sun!rfm, rfm@eng.sun.com

The correct address for the address "1:161/148.1" would be the following: somebody@p1.f567.234.z1.fidonet.org This will get it there provided David Dodell's system puts in the point kludge line, and 234/567 understands the kludge line. Don't you just love fidonet routeing software? Hopefully on day they will go more to a USENET style of addressing? But the temperature in hell does not seem to be dropping today. :-) Don Ault The AULTerNET Solution BBS 1:201/40

What do I do with the bloomin' > ".1"? The ".1" is a "point" designation - usually an indication that the "boss" node (161/148) is running a private nodelist/network. Most of the modern FidoNet-type mailers are now point-aware, but you can safely ignore the point address, and simply send it to the bossnode - where the sysop will certainly forward it for you (perhaps automatically remapping, perhaps manually). -- 1B Systems Management Ltd. | 4B - 2520 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, B.C. Reading left-to-right, this is "somebody" at point 1, Fido node 148, network 161, zone 1 in the fidonet organization: somebody@p1.f148.n161.z1.fidonet.org Should work fine. -- jamesd@techbook.UUCP ...!tektronix!nosun!techbook!jamesd TECHbooks: The Computer Book Specialists - Voice: +1 503 646-8257 12600 SW 1st - Beaverton, OR - 97005

It would look like this: Bozo.the.Clown@p1.f148.n161.z1.fidonet.org The "blooming' .1" is called the "point" number. Hence the 'p' is used. Tim -- Tim Pozar Try also...
