[comp.mail.misc] Mailer Standards

bounder@avcocan.UUCP (Robert Story) (04/12/90)

Where can I find out about mail standards? I would specifically like to
know about RFC 822 and MHS. Is RFC 822 the standard that the Unix mail
system uses? Perhaps, this should be a new book from Nutshell!

Thanks.

RFC 822 and RFC 1123 are the closest thing to standards that exist, but I've
never seen a Unix(tm) mailer that follows it completely. Most notaable is the
addition of fields to the header that violate the "standards".
