[comp.mail.misc] DOS version of mail maps??

jjohnson@cdp.UUCP (05/28/90)

I've been trying to figure out a way to import the UUCP mail
maps for my area into my DOS database (PC-File 5.0), and am
turning to the net for help. Is there a DOS batch file or maybe a
BASIC program that could fill the role of the shell script that
converts the maps for UNIX? I haven't been able to figure it out.
My goal is to come up with a simple ascii file, maybe fixed
field or comma delimited, that could be imported into any
database. The problem I've run into is that the mailmap listings
have "fields" that aren't sequentially uniform; that is, there
are significant differences from listing to listing in terms of
which lines are included or left out, and differences in the
actual sequence of the lines.
Perhaps someone's done this already, in which case I'd like
to know them. If it hasn't been done, I've got some energy to
start posting a conversion program around - I know The Portal,
and other DOS gateways, and BBS's in my area would probably be
interested, if we could come up with a reasonable way to do it.
	Whaddaya think? ;^)
