lodin@plains.NoDak.edu (Joe Schmo) (06/27/90)
I have run into what seems to be the seven character UUCP name length
problem, and I am trying to find solutions.
Systems: (from u.usa.in.1)
---------------------------
koiasvr01 (formerly aiehost) HP 9000/360 HP-UX7.0 HDB UUCP
pur-ee Dual VAX 11/780 BSD4.3
bsu-cs VAX 11/785 BSD4.3
When I send mail out of my machine thru pur-ee or bsu-cs, my UUCP name gets
truncated to seven characters. The _From_, _From:_, and _Return-Path:_ lines
all have the wrong system name. As a result, any (R)eply to mail never
makes it back. I have a sample session following this which simply does an
email using this path koiasvr01 -> pur-ee -> koiasvr01.
I had to change the system name to comply with Delco/GM/EDS naming
conventions. Here are name results -> hostname: koiasvr01 uuname -l: koiasvr01
According to "Managing UUCP and Usenet" by ORA, BNU and BSD4.3 should have a
14 character allowance for node names. Is that a different length than the
neighbor UUCP name lengths?
Can anybody tell me any options besides changing my name back to a 7 char
length?
Please direct any answers here or email to:
