[comp.mail.misc] Does this host exist?

mferrare@adelphi.ua.oz.au (Mark Ferraretto) (07/24/90)

I have been trying to telnet to hosts with the following Internet Numbers.
        128.189.128.2
        128.189.128.4

but I get no response. Does that mean that these numbers are wrong? If not
what hosts are they?

Sorry if I've sent this message to the wrong group - please direct me to the
right one.

It could be you got them wrong... What hosts do you expect to contact?

Mark> If not what hosts are they?

Hmmm...provided that they have been assigned, they could be hosts or
some other kind of device that lives in an IP world.

Let's see if we can find out what their domain names are...

Well, there do not appear to be any PTR records for those addresses.
Given the 18.128.in-addr.arpa domain belongs to relay.cdnnet.ca and
the e-mail contact for that domain should be demco@relay.cdnnet.ca,
you might find out more by asking demco directly.

Enjoy!

A 'reverse directory' check on jade.berkeley.edu 117 doesn't yield either
of these hosts. This doesn't mean they don't exist, but aren't in any
known records.
