[comp.mail.misc] Whither the LIST-OF-LISTS?

mcb@presto.ig.com (The owls are not what they seem) (10/11/90)

This afternoon I attempted to fetch a current copy of the
LIST-OF-LISTS (NETINFO:INTEREST-GROUPS.TXT) from nic.ddn.mil, instead
of the list I found a file containing the following in its place:

"The interest group list is under review by DCA, and has temporarily
been removed from the system. It will be restored after the review is
completed. If you have questions, please send a message to NIC@NIC.DDN.MIL."

Before bothering Rich Zellich (the keeper of the list) or the kind
folks at the DDN NIC, I wonder if anyone could advise me of the status
of the list, where (if not at nic.ddn.mil) it might be found, or when
it might return.

(Note, this is not the List of Publically Accessible Mailing Lists
that is posted by Gene Spafford as one of the Usenet periodic
postings, but is an Internet/BITNET list; there is significant overlap
but there lists are not identical.)

Thanks,

Thanks to all those who answered my query about the LIST-OF-LISTS, and
pointed out that the list is now available for anonymous FTP from
ftp.nisc.sri.com in the file netinfo/interest-groups, and thanks to
those who suggested the LISTSERV list of lists from BITNET.
Apparently I missed the original announcement of the move that was
posted the TCP-IP list.

I was at the Interop show yesterday and mentioned the old message on
nic.ddn.mil to one of the NIC staff, who changed it to reflect the new
location of the file.
