--- I'm having some real problems with getting Smail3.1.19 to run on a MacIIx running A/UX 1.1. The problem is only with inbound SMTP; all uucp and outbound SMTP seems to work fine. In a nutshell, I have this mac (stella) acting as a gateway between two ethernet networks and UUCP. Mail sent SMTP out from the Mac works fine, but when someone mails something to the Mac (in this case, a machine named nudge), it gets mailed to itself repeatedly until the max hops is exceeded. Attached at the end are a sample from the smail log file and a copy of the mail to MAILER-DAEMON. How in the world did smail cook up @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com? Also attached is a copy of the EDITME and conf/os files that I used to build smail. I used the built in transports, directors and routes, except that I defined smart-host and smart-path to point at emory (our primary UUCP link). No config file. Any and all help is *very* much appreciated! Thanks... *------------* sample from /usr/spool/smail/log/logfile *------------* 10/28/90 16:53:37: pid 95: smail daemon started 10/28/90 16:54:25: [m0iTKxV-00022ZC] new msg: from ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:26: [m0iTKxW-00022TC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:26: [m0iTKxV-00022ZC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:27: [m0iTKxX-00022ZC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:27: [m0iTKxW-00022TC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:28: [m0iTKxX-00022TC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:28: [m0iTKxX-00022ZC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:28: [m0iTKxY-00022ZC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:28: [m0iTKxX-00022TC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:29: [m0iTKxZ-00022TC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:29: [m0iTKxY-00022ZC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:29: [m0iTKxZ-00022ZC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:29: [m0iTKxZ-00022TC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:30: [m0iTKxa-00022TC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:30: [m0iTKxZ-00022ZC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:31: [m0iTKxb-00022ZC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:31: [m0iTKxa-00022TC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:32: [m0iTKxc-00022TC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:32: [m0iTKxb-00022ZC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:33: [m0iTKxd-00022ZC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:33: [m0iTKxc-00022TC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:33: [m0iTKxd-00022TC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:33: [m0iTKxd-00022ZC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:34: [m0iTKxe-00022ZC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:34: [m0iTKxd-00022TC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:35: [m0iTKxf-00022TC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:35: [m0iTKxe-00022ZC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:36: [m0iTKxg-00022ZC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:36: [m0iTKxf-00022TC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:37: [m0iTKxh-00022TC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:37: [m0iTKxg-00022ZC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:38: [m0iTKxh-00022ZC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:38: [m0iTKxh-00022TC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:39: open_spool: /usr/spool/smail/input/0iTKxh-00022ZC: lock failed: Permission denied 10/28/90 16:54:39: [m0iTKxj-00022TC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:39: [m0iTKxh-00022ZC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:40: [m0iTKxk-00022ZC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:40: [m0iTKxj-00022TC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:41: [m0iTKxl-00022TC] new msg: from @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com, old id=<9010282151.AA23564@nudge.sware.com> 10/28/90 16:54:41: [m0iTKxk-00022ZC] <ken@stella> ... delivered 10/28/90 16:54:41: [m0iTKxl-00022TC] <ken@stella> ... failed: (ERR_145) loop detection: maximum hop count exceeded 10/28/90 16:54:42: [m0iTKxm-00023MC] new msg: from <> 10/28/90 16:54:44: [m0iTKxm-00023MC] <@stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com> ... failed: (ERR_101) unknown host 10/28/90 16:54:45: [m0iTKxm-00023MC] mail moved to /usr/spool/smail/error/0iTKxm-00023MC 10/28/90 16:54:45: [m0iTKxl-00022TC] <ken@stella> ... error returned to @stella.sware.com:ken@sware.com *------------* sample message left in /usr/spool/uucp *------------* From MAILER-DAEMON Sun Oct 28 12:37:33 1990 remote from sware Received: by stella.sware.com (/\=-/\ Smail3.1.18.1 #18.2) id <m0iTGws-0001qsC@stella.sware.com>;
