[comp.mail.misc] help for classroom - kids 'n e-mail

willison@ac.dal.ca (11/19/90)

After one failed attempt, I'm trying again!

My daughter's teacher is using e-mail in place of conventional
mail to encourage the kids to write. I suggested she try to
find international contacts. Being a good teacher, she asked me
for help. I haven't got a clue how to do this other than ask on
a net. So does anyone know of other teachers of ten-year old
children who might be interested in a link to a Canadian school?
The kids love it even though they are only writing to adult
students at present; I suspect the fascination of writing via
e-mail to ten-year olds elsewhere in the world would be even
more stimulating.

People here at the Institute of Education, University of London, are
interested in this. There are two projects - one
between UCB and IOE using schoolchildren in the US
and London, and another between City College New York and London.
I understand that the UCB link project has in effect finished now, but
I will forward this to the person concerned here at IOE.

The New York Global Email project is the subject of a meeting here at
IOE very shortly. The idea is to encourage interest from London schools
with support from us.
I will forward your enquiry to them as well.

Cheers
