I am in need of advice. Within the next six months we will have various rural nodes connected to our state-wide educational network. These remote nodes will only be connected as necessary and will probably be using SLIP or PPP running on a PC. What we need to do is designate some host here to store the mail for a particular node until they connect and then pass the mail along. My question is, what is the best way to do this, both for us and the remote nodes? We can get ahold of the NCSA Telnet package which works with the SLIP packet driver. Commercial software is also available which offers a few more TCP/IP features. Thus, the PC side can be taken care. From our side, do we want to go with UUCP? We don't use it here now, and my impression is that it is something which is done over dial-up lines, whereas a SLIP connection can be treated just like a real connection to the network. They will have their own IP address, etc. Is there something else that we could do? Your suggestions will be appreciated.
