Hi I have here a testinstallation (from Alsyd, Switzerland) of TCP/Connect II (V.1.0.1). A very cute software. It includes TELNET (also TN3270 which is the main reason I test it), FTP, News (over NNTP) and Mail for the MacIntosh. I just have a problem with Mail. Do I need really to install POP on my mailserver? Sending mail from Mac to UNIX is no problem, this works with SMTP. Receiving mail doesn't work because this needs POP protocoll on the mailserver (that's what the documentation says). I do not know POP really. I only I know is Jason Levitt's article in UNIX Today from September 3, 1990. POP (Post Office Protocoll) has two versions, POP2 and POP3. TCP/Connect only supports POP2. I guess I need something like the popd from the University of Minnesota on the mailserver. The mailserver is a HP9000/835 with HP-UX 7.0. I have a mostly sendmail based mail environment on my site. This works fine (really :-). I don't want to change. What would the people out there recommend me? Where would I get the POP software which runs with TCP/Connect II and HP-UX 7.0? Another problem is, that the News part sometimes blows up the Mac. Especially if you try to read a big newsgroup like rec.arts.startrek :-) Somebody has the same experience?
