[comp.mail.misc] 3rd posting of timezone abbreviations

abe@mace.cc.purdue.edu (Vic Abell) (06/06/91)

This third time zone abbreviation list update has been made possible with
the help of the following people:

Stephen J. Walick <steve@nshore.ncoast.org> pointed out the dateok.c
		function in C news.

Geoff Collyer <geoff@world.std.com> and Henry Spencer of C News fame
(Geoff authored the dateok.c function, along with Mark Moraes
and Rich Walies via Rayan Zachariassen)

Jon Postel <postel@venera.isi.org> sent me information compiled by
		Gary Dixon <GDixon@HIS-PHOENIX-MULTICS.ARPA>, Jim Falksen
		<Falksenj@HIS-PHOENIX-MULTICS.ARPA> and Gary M. Palter
<Palter@HIS-PHOENIX-MULTICS.ARPA> of the Multics project, and
		John Colville of NSWIT, Australia.

		This compilation includes two references:

Dobyns, Zipporah Pottenger, Ph.D. and MacGregor, Marcian B.
"The Astrology Annual Reference Book." 1981.

Michelsen, Neil F. "The American Ephemeris, 1971 to 1980."

Nickolay Saukh <nms@jvd.msk.su> of JV Dialogue, Moscow, USSR supplied
		information about Moscow time zones.

The anonymous authors of the BSD timezone() function

Paul Eggert <eggert@twinsun.com> provided copious comments and also
pointed me at Arthur David Olson's timezone database in SunOS
		4.1's /usr/share/lib/zoneinfo.

Arthur David Olson compiled a timezone database in SunOS 4.1.

	David Wilson <david@wyvern.cs.uow.edu.au> and <mark@comp.vuw.ac.nz>
provided information on the times zones for Australia and
		New Zealand.

	Trin Tantsetthi, ISE/Thailand <trin@tlaeng.enet.dec.com> supplied
		information about Thailand Standard Time.

Compiler's apology: please note that I don't endorse the use of time zone
abbreviations in mail headers. Some entries of this list are a reflection
of non-standard abbreviations in current mail headers -- e. g., BRA, MEX,
ITA -- and others acknowledge abbreviations that were once used and are now
obsolete -- e. g., AT, BT, CCT, MT.
