[comp.mail.misc] supressing .mailrc or set record in ucb mail

phil@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (Phil Howard KA9WGN) (06/08/91)

In my .mailrc file for ucb mail I have a "set record=" statement so I can
keep a log of all my outgoing mail. The problem is that this also keeps
an extra log of things when I mail uuencoded files out.

I don't want to remove the "set record=" for my interactive mail, but I do
want to find a way to not log the file mailings. I will be doing these
file mailings via a shell script, so I can use mail options or other programs
to do said mailings.

I tried the "-n" option on mail, just in case the man pages were a bit wrong
about it supressing /usr/lib/Mail.rc or whatever, but it did not supress the
reading of my .mailrc so that is not usable. Does anyone know if a way to
send mail so that the "set record=" in the ".mailrc" file, or the ".mailrc"
file itself, is not used for the instance of mailing a file? It cannot
involve temporarily altering the ".mailrc" file since I might be using it
for mail at the same time.

Please e-mail answers since I cross posted this question.
