Here at the University of Vermont we have two VAXes, a 750 and a 780, both running 4.2 BSD since spring. The two machines communicate to each other through the DMF32 terminal ports: one line for uucp (750 always master) and two more lines to allow tipping in each direction. At present there is no other hardware available for inter-machine communication. My question concerns setting up the Berkeley networking stuff (remote logins, etc.) on another terminal port line between the two machines. Is this possible? How does one go about it? How are /etc/hosts and /etc/networks set up? Can ifconfig(8C) be used to do this and how? I'm new at this game so I may be overlooking the obvious and missing the forest for the trees! Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. "If that's true, then I'm the Pope!" Stephen J.
