[news.groups] Vote on comp.sys.mac.programmer

david@wiley.UUCP (David Hull) (01/21/88)

Chuq Von Rospach would like to have a new newsgroup created,
comp.sys.mac.programmer, but would rather not have to count the
votes. Without a proper vote, however, the backbone will probably not
be willing to create a new newsgroup. Since Chuq doesn't want to
have votes mailed to him, I am willing to collect them.

One reason to vote for this newsgroup might be:

"I'm not interested in programming on the Mac, and don't like to
wade through hundreds of articles on programming." Or
alternatively, "I'm tired of articles asking whether FullWrite
    Professional is shipping yet."

One reason to vote against this newsgroup might be:

"Using the Mac is a gestalt experience. I don't see how programming
can be separated from the other uses." :-)

Votes may be mailed to me at:

	...!uunet!wiley!david (UUCP) or
	david%wiley.uucp@csvax.caltech.edu	(ARPA)

PLEASE do not post votes to news.groups. I will not count them. ONLY
votes mailed to me at the above address will count. According to the
USENET guidelines, the polls will be open for 30 days, starting today,
21 January 1988. For a new newsgroup to be created it must have
garnered 100 more "ayes" than "nays" at the end of that time. (For a
complete list of the steps necessary to get a new newgroups created,
see the posting in news.announce.newusers.)

Discussion about this proposed newsgroup should continue in
news.groups. Do we really want to call it "comp.sys.mac.programmer?"
How about "comp.sys.mac.tech" instead? Will the creation of a new
group really fulfill its aim? Some recent discussion in news.groups
has suggested that experience from comp.unix.questions and
comp.unix.wizards has shown that beginners will continue to post their
questions to the more technical newsgroups under the opinion that the
readers of that newsgroup will be better able to answer their
questions.
