[news.groups] Vote for comp.sys.mac.programmer

chuq@plaid.Sun.COM (Chuq Von Rospach) (01/20/88)

Well, the backbone, in its infinite wisdom, wants us to vote on
comp.sys.mac.programmer, even though we voted on it a few months ago and had
enough votes then. So be it.

The official call for votes. If you feel that comp.sys.mac.programmer should
exist, please vote yes. If you feel it should not, please vote no. If you
have already voted, please vote again, since I'm starting the slate from
zero starting now so they can't claim improprieties. I'm also not taking the
votes from the previous vote (since they are obviously invalid), so if you
voted last time, vote again.

Please send your votes to news.group. Please don't mail them to me. If you
really want to let the backbone know that you think it is silly to vote for
this group again, Cc: a copy of your yes vote to cbosgd!backbone.

I'll keep a count of the number of yes votes I see, although I really don't
have time to be the backbone's secretary.

chuq (I vote yes. Again)

Chuq, why are you doing this? You know that what you propose is a
blatant violation of the rules (such as they are). The only reason I can
see for you suggesting that people post their votes instead of mailing them
is to piss people off. Pretty childish by my book.

OK folks, if Chuq is going to play head games with the rest of the
net, I guess somebody has to actually do something useful. Since (I think)
I'm the one who stirred up this latest round of "let's split comp.sys.mac",
I guess I should collect the votes. The vote on the table is "should we
create comp.sys.mac.programmer". Mail your yes or no vote to me. I'll
give it until feb 4th (2 weeks from today) then I'll post a summary of the
results. You can followup to this if you have something useful to add to
the discussion, but not if you simply want to record you vote.

Note that I've directed followups to "nowhere". The sole purpose
of this is to prevent people from posting a vote as a followup to this
without thinking. If you really do want to followup to this, simply edit
the "Newsgroups:" line to get rid of the "nowhere" and replace it with
"news.groups".

I've seen some of the most active and most respected contributors to
comp.sys.mac make a fool of themselves by posting votes. There is NO EXCUSE
for such foolishness - and I am disappointed in you all ....

not that I don't consider myself a fool also: It never would have occured
to me that Chuq could have meant to POST when he asked for votes to news.group:
so I had sent my mail to news.group@sun rather than to chuq@sun....
not until Roy's article did it become clear to me that Chuq actually must
have meant for people to post to news.groups .... shame on you, too.

but to all the ones that were fools enough to follow that invitation: I'd
like to invite you all to jump in the nearest lake .... fizzle, sputter, out
went the flame!

seriously, folks, go repent by giving a few bucks to the Red Cross or taking
some flowers to a sad old lady you may know ....

PS: ok, we can be friends again now ....
