Since the general sentiment seems to be in favor of a comp.sys.ibm.pc.tech
group, I would be glad to collect votes to see if we can collect the
required minimum.

In summary:

comp.sys.ibm.pc.tech would be a technical newsgroup devoted to
dicussion of issues of importance to *programmers* of
IBM PC/AT/PS2 computers and compatibles. This is analogous
to the comp.sys.mac.programmers group for Mac people.

When you vote, indicate any naming preference. Personally, I would
prefer comp.sys.ibm.pc.programmers, since it's more specific. However,
discussion seems to have indicated comp.sys.ibm.pc.tech

E-mail to the signature address, or to gary@apexepa.uucp if you have a
smarter mailer.

I will summarize progress.

Now that it is completely obvious that IBM is no longer leading the pack of
PC-compatible computer manufacturers, I submit that it is time to begin
a long overdue correction to the Usenet namespace.

Let's make the new group comp.sys.pc.tech, or maybe even comp.sys.dos.tech,
since we don't really discuss *nix on PC's, nor OS/2 (much). I'd prefer
the simple 'pc', since most everyone knows what that means. Apples,
Amigas, Ataris, etc are rarely confused with 'pc's, so I don't see a
problem with taking the name for the PC-and-compatibles marketplace. I
suppose we could use 'isa' (Industry-Standard-Architecture), but that makes
me gag.
