of the reasons for and against moderation follows, as does a summary

Here is a summary of the discussion:
The reasons for moderation are as follows:
o Moderation would raise the signal to noise level of the group.
The basic idea is that we would attempt to keep personal flames
and material that is clearly not germane to the topic (which is
pretty broad) OFF of the group. At the same time, the goal is
is to keep up throughput. This will be accomplished by having
alternate moderators when the regular moderator is not around.
Reasons against moderation:
o There are possible conflicts of interest with any given
moderator. [Ed: I don't forsee this being a problem.]
o Slower turnaround time.
o Could be done by individual user software.
Alternatives:
o Posting monthly ``rules''. I may implement this in some manner
if the vote fails.
