[news.groups] reading the same again and again...

The 'rn' news read program does, from others I don't know.

NO !
The article will be sent once, when it is stored (in /usr/spool/news)
the "copies" are just links and when you have the DOXREFS flag defined
when generating the news software, in the article an "Xref:" field
will be included that is honoured by rn (otherwise also rn doesn't
recognize crosspostings!).

You can check this doing "v" in rn on an article that is posted to
multiple newsgroups - you should see an Xref: field then.
