[ In inserted a Followup-To field for redirecting the discussion ! ] In article <609@htsa.uucp> fransvo@htsa.UUCP (Frans van Otten) writes: >Why doesn't the software check if I've already seen an article in >a different newsgroup ? The 'rn' news read program does, from others I don't know. (See below for the conditions!) >My system administrator told me: When an article is sent to >multiple newsgroups, one copy of the article will be sent for every >newsgroup. Is this true ? ... NO ! The article will be sent once, when it is stored (in /usr/spool/news) the "copies" are just links and when you have the DOXREFS flag defined when generating the news software, in the article an "Xref:" field will be included that is honoured by rn (otherwise also rn doesn't recognize crosspostings!). You can check this doing "v" in rn on an article that is posted to multiple newsgroups - you should see an Xref: field then. -- -- ###### Jos Vos ###### Internet jos@idca.tds.philips.nl ###### -- ###### ###### UUCP ...!mcvax!philapd!jos ######
