Per the guidelines, this is an official request to start discussion on comp.sys.mac.hw. Name and charter: comp.sys.mac.hw (unmoderated). Discussion of hardware issues relating to the Macintosh computer. Justification: comp.sys.mac is now averaging 50-55 messages per day (our spool directory has 1750 messages going back 30 days). It's getting too large to easily deal with, so it's time to split it again. by my count, which I tried to make conservative, hardware related messages comprice about 440 of those 1700 messages, or roughly 25% of message traffic. Hardware related messages are also a group of messages that should not encourage cross-posting. Previous splits of comp.sys.mac (hypercard and programmer) have reduced traffic in comp.sys.mac and not been heavily cross-posted (2% and 1%, respectively). At the time c.s.m.programmer was voted upon, c.s.m.hw was also considered but deferred as being premature. I think it is now time to create this group. I will coordinate any necessary procedural issues (naming arguments, etc) during the discussion. I will also, barring large-scale arguments, coordinate the voting if this proposal comes to it. Further discussion should be in news.groups. Chuq Von Rospach =|= Editor,OtherRealms =|= Member SFWA/ASFA chuq@apple.com =|= CI$: 73317,635 =|= AppleLink: CHUQ [This is myself speaking.
