[news.groups] rec.swl or rec.short-wave

I really like the idea. When I first started to read news a few
monthes back, the first news groups I tried to find is something like
rec.swl or rec.short-wave. I couldn't believe that there was none. The
closest thing I could find was rec.radio-ham.

Recently, there is a mailing list called SWL-L, which is a fine
idea. But, I sometime hesitate to use it, knowing that the message I send
will flood more than 100 mail boxes (200?). Also, I don't think that it got
enough publicity.

	I have been a shortwave listener since I was a teenage. I didn't
know the term swl until I found a copy of World Radio & TV handbook in the
library by accident. ( It was cited in consumer report for reviewing short
wave receivers.) I think that there are a lot of SWL like me out there.

I think that Rec.short-wave is a great name. I think that most BC
band, VHF, TV DXers and scanner owners will have the interests to see what
the news groups is about and will find that it is also for them.

This I just do not comprehend. Do many people avoid sending to a
mailing list because they don't want to "flood" a couple of hundred
mailboxes of people who have explicitly asked to get the list? This
is somehow much worse in their eyes then sending to a newsgroup which
appears on thousands of machines?

Yes, I know mailing lists and newsgroups have many differences and
that even I prefer to read a newsgroup rather than a mailing list. I
just don't understand the above statement; the point that was
addressed (flooding a lot of places with the message) seems to be
quite similar between both environments.
